18/05/2009 - AUSDECK TAKES 5K TO WIN AT BIS!
It's been over a year since Andrew Scheuerle won an A-Main and although that may be hard to hear for the Queensland star, his consistency has seen him stand on the podium at almost every event his car has raced in. He also leads the current Comp Cams Series and the Sprintcars Queensland Championship and took out the overall Woodstock Bourbon Easter Series this year so all-in-all, he's had a pretty good season thus far.
Don't let that fool you though, Scheuerle has been waiting patiently for his A-Main win after a number of incidents throughout the year snatched his chances at winning that ellusive Feature Race. Saturday night's A Main was no different with Scheuerle having to work hard to take home the 5K up for grabs in the East Coast Pipelines Dash for Cash.
He timed in 4th quick and went on to finish 3rd and 2nd respectively in his two heats. The Dash event was a format no-one had witnessed before where the top four highest on points took to the track for a six lap time trial event with the result then being inverted to start the 6 lap Dash.
Finally it looked as though Scheuerle was on a roll when he luckily timed in 4th quick, inverting him to the front row to start the Dash beside Brazier. Scheuerle got the start and the car was quick, Brazier took a push into the wall and caused damage to the #95 Maxim. The race was back underway and Scheuerle took the win comfortably over Bryan Mann.
The start of the A Main saw Scheuerle take the lead only to have a restart due to contact further back in the field. He again drove away from Mann on the restart after a few laps in the yellow's were on for another incident rear of field.
This restart was critical for Scheuerle as James McFadden took the low line in turn 1 & 2 while Scheuerle took the high line. McFadden slid up infront of Scheuerle coming off turn two pushing him so high, forcing him to hit the breaks to avoid hitting the wall. Scheuerle then lost two more positions and had to fight back to gain fourth place. McFadden then hit the cushion and flipped into the wall on turn three providing the restart Scheuerle needed to tighten the gap between the front few cars.
Mann was then in the lead followed by Gessner and then Scheuerle. Scheuerle was making the high line work while Gessner had the low line working well. Coming off turn four Gessner drove it high with Scheuerle almost touching the wall as both raced side by side with Gessner then taking Scheuerle's high line in turn one & two. Scheurle then rolled it across the bottom trying to gain speed on Gessner as Gessner hit the cushion coming off the high line in turn two and clipped the wall ending his night.
The restart saw Scheuerle in second place behind Bryan Mann. Scheuerle had the pace throughout the night, with MyLaps recording his fastest laps were towards the end of the race, signalling that the Ausdeck Racing Team are onto a good thing leading into the remaining rounds of the Championships and the Queensland Title.
Lap traffic played a major part in Saturday night's $5000 to win with Mann getting stuck in the middle of the race track while Scheuerle drove around him on the high line to take the lead. With just over ten laps remaining, Scheuerle fought his way through lap traffic to finally take his first win of the season and take home the winner's cheque. It was a sweet victory for the Ausdeck Racing Team who have been waiting a while to see the winner's trophy!
An ecstatic Scheuerle was relieved to finally take a win as he heads into the last round of the Comp Cams Series where he only has to start the A Main and it will assure him of the title. After this weekend's thrilling victory, Scheuerle will be looking to finish his season on a high and take another win at the Series final on the 30th May 2009 at Brisbane International Speedway.
