29/09/2009 - SCHEUERLE TAKES PODIUM AT RD 1 COMP CAMS SERIES
Debuting a brand new look, the Q25 Ausdeck Patios & Roofing maxim of Andrew Scheuerle rolled out onto the track for Saturday night's Round One of the 09/10 Comp Cams Series. Scheuerle finished the night well and led the A Main feature race for the entire lap count until the last corner of the last lap when James McFadden slid the Queensland star and took the win. Scheuerle was disappointed to say the least, but should have expected it from the Queensland Champ.
The night started out in frustrating form as Scheuerle struggled to qualify with a fast time, placing him off the front row of both of his heats. He went on to take both heat wins and qualified 4th overall in points before the night's marble draw. Andrew started in position 3 for the Dash and went on to finish 2nd, giving him a front row start beside McFadden for the A Main.
The money was on McFadden to get the start however Andrew showed complete dominance as he drove away down the straight and continued to pull away leaving around 4-5 car lengths between the pair after the first 5 laps. Scheuerle hit lap traffic and it was his time to show why he is one of the best drivers Queensland has quickly putting 4 lap cars between himself and McFadden.
It looked as though Scheuerle had the race won on the high line and after two yellow lights, he continued to drive away from McFadden on the start however after another yellow, as the laps counted down, McFadden worked the low line while Scheuerle was getting drive off the high line and on the last lap in turn three, McFadden gave it all he had and drove into the corner with incredible speed and slid Scheuerle pushing him towards the wall where he lost all momentum and had to brake while McFadden took the lead.
"It's disappointing for sure, looking back, I should have gone the low line for the last lap but I didn't know he didn't have as much speed as me on the high line, I thought if I went low, he'd drive around the top but instead, he slid me and I had to brake and he took the win. He did a good job, with McFadden, you've got to expect the unexpected and next time, that won't be happening again. I'm looking forward to round two that's for sure." Andrew said.
One thing is certain, the Ausdeck Patios & Roofing Maxim is exactly where the team wants it and Scheuerle was happy the car responded to every change they made throughout the night. As the team prepares to travel interstate over the coming months, Scheuerle is looking forward to more favourable results. "We got on the podium in the first round and led the whole race and the car felt good so I'm happy. It's a good result. There's plenty more races out there to win so this is just the start of a good season for Ausdeck Racing." Shirls said.
The Ausdeck Team will be back at BIS for the next round of the Comp Cams. Keep updated at www.ausdeckracing.com for all the latest team news and photos coming soon!
