23/01/2010 - MARBLE DRAW THE DECIDER FOR SCHEUERLE

It seems as though it's just not the season for Queensland's Andrew Scheuerle who, for the whole season so far, has had one favourable marble draw when it comes to track conditions. Scheuerle has unfortunately either had to time trial first out or last and in all cases, the track has been the opposite of what a driver would prefer. Last night at Borderline Speedway was no different. Scheuerle rolled into the driver's meeting to see he was first out for time trials and the track was so wet during his hot laps, "really, we just prepared it for the second session of hot laps" Scheuerle said when interviewed straight after.

Finally qualifying in 18th position the team had their work set out to qualify straight into the A Main and with the track rough and fast, it seemed like only luck would get them through. Scheuerle held his 5th position in his first heat and went on to move forward two spots in the second heat to finish 4th.

While it seemed like it might just be enough, with five cars tied on points, the time trials then came into play and Scheuerle was forced to start out of 3 in the B Main. Had he timed in with an 11.450 instead of his 11.526 he would have transferred straight into the evening's A Main Feature Race.

Stephen Bell and American McCarl were infront of Andrew in the B Main and with racing as fierce as an A Main, the three fought it out with Scheuerle ready to take second when the caution lights came on and forced a stop with 6 laps to go.

The restart showed that a 10 minute stop was long enough to change track conditions and both first and second place knew they had the transfer spots covered and Scheuerle narrowly missed out taking home 3rd position.

The reserves were not offered for the 10k to win race which was disappointing considering Dollansky didn't even start due to a broken drive line which would have given Scheuerle the opportunity to run the feature.

"Talk about bad luck with these marble draws!! Somewhere along the lines, surely our luck has to change. I'm hoping it will be for The Classic that's for sure. If you don't time trial well there, you may as well pack it up with an 80 car field, it will be tough to try and work your way back through if that happened. We're feeling confident, the car is good. I felt really good in the car last night, I haven't felt probably that good since the start of the season. I'm hoping we'll get some favour with tonight's qualifying position that's for sure."
